Diabetic Recipes: Fast Green Breakfast Smoothie to Start the Day Right

If you want to start the day off on the right foot, then you’ll want to start off with this green breakfast smoothie. This low-calorie drink is hearty, filling, and flavorful and chock full of nutrients.

2 cups of your favorite herbal fruit tea, chilled
1 cup frozen strawberries
½ small banana
4 – 6 lemon balm leaves
Optional: sweetener (stevia leaves, extract or artificial sweetener packet)
1 ‘handful’ of raw kale leaves
1 ‘handful’ of raw spinach leaves

Prepare your favorite herbal fruit tea (peach, mango, raspberry leaf, etc.) the night before and leave it in the fridge so it’s good and chilled. In the morning pour it in the blender.
Add frozen strawberries, banana, lemon balm (substitute a teaspoon of lemon juice if you don’t have lemon balm) and sweetener, if desired.
Puree until smooth.
Add a small handful of leaves of each of the greens into the mixture and puree. Keep adding in small increments until the smoothie reaches desired thickness. To thin it, add water.
Drink and enjoy. Makes two servings. You can preserve it for several hours in an air-tight container in the fridge.
